  • Do I need to appear for the GRE exam for MA in English Literature in the USA?

  • Yes you can appear for the GRE exam. As there are two kinds of test- GRE General test and GRE Subject test. The GRE General test is for masters which will include, math, quantitative analysis, verbal analysis, etc. The GRE Subject test will conducted if a student wants to showcase their caliber in a particular subject like math, biology and English. So if you are going to pursue MA in Arts then you may have to give the GRE Subject test. But this also depends upon the university you are applying to, if they require this exam or not. The other alternative of GRE exam is the TOEFL exam which is accepted by almost all the universities in the USA.

  • From what I know, most universities don't ask you to submit GRE scores if you're applying for a literature or a writing course
However, it's always a good idea to give it and have your scores in hand, just in case
    It gives you an edge
Still, the main focus will be on your portfolio
